The Surf Hotel in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, was engulfed by a major fire late last night, which also affected adjacent buildings.

WBZ-TV reports that the Surf Hotel was destroyed in the fire, but no one was hurt, as it is closed for the winter.

The Surf Hotel's official Web site described the hotel as a small family-owned operation “situated in the middle of all beach activities … directly opposite the Atlantic Ocean at Hampton Beach, NH.”

The area is about an hour north of Boston and a popular tourist destination.

The AP reports that Hampton Beach has a history of major fires, including incidents in 1915, 1923, 1950, and 1999.”

Five buildings in all were destroyed by the fire, per Boston.com, which also adds the following details about the blaze:

A fire alarm activated at 295 Ocean Blvd. shortly after midnight, said Hampton Fire Capt ain David Lang. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the first floor of the wood-frame hotel and thick smoke billowing from the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Flooding occurred in Sunset Beach near Anderson Street, forcing that section of
the highway to close. There was also some street flooding in Seal Beach.

In San Diego, Ocean Beach Pier was closed when waves tore off a piece of its railing.

Comment fonctionnent les réductions ou les majorations ?
A l’origine, vous êtes assuré au tarif de reference, a savoir sans bonus ni malus. C'est la cotisation de de base. Ensuite, pour calculer votre cotisationprime, seront pris en compte les accidents intervenus pendant la période d'un an précédant de deux mois l'échéance annuelle du contrat.

Calcul du bonus :
Si vous ne déclarez pas d’accidents partiellement ou totalement responsable durant la période de référence votre prime va baisser de 5 % par rapport à votre prime de l'année précédente. Le bonus max est de 50 % de votre cotisation . Vous le conserverez après le premier accident responsable si vous étiez au bonus maxi depuis au moins trois ans.

Calcul du malus (cf : Assurances Malus ):
Pour chaque accident dont la responsabilité vous incombe à 100 %, votre cotisation augmentera de 25 %. Mais, pour chaque accident partiellement responsable, votre cotisation se verra majoree que de 12,5 %. Le malus maxi est de 350 % par rapport à votre cotisation de référence. Si vous n'avez pas d'accident à votre tort deux années consécutives, vous reviendrez au tarif classique. En cas de changement de véhicule, vous conserverez votre coefficient de bonus ou de malus.

Quels sont les accidents pris en compte dans le calcul du malus ?
Tous les sinistres sont pris en compte, sauf :
les sinistres entièrement engendres par la faute d’une des victimes et les sinistres où la cause de l’accident est un évènement de force majeure et les degats à votre véhicule en stationnement.
